Yesterday we said a final goodbye to this man. I'm so thankful I was able to know him for as long as I did. I saw a man who was kind, gentle, patient, and God-fearing. A man who stuck with the things he liked and didn't see the need to venture into the unknown. A man who worked hard until his body told him it was time to rest. A man who was stubborn and refused to turn a car around when he took a wrong turn ;). A man who was greatly respected by his family and friends. We loved the years he spent with us on vacation in Florida, and are so glad we have all of those memories. We will miss having him here on earth, but would never wish him back from enjoying the splendors of heaven! What a joy to know that one day we will get to see him again.
Instead of doing the usual highly themed and detailed birthday party at our house (which I absolutely love doing...but decided against it this year with a newborn around and all), Claire kept it simple by choosing a couple of friends and some fun activities. Pizza, a craft store stocked with supplies, a fun candy store, and swimming made for a pretty spectacular birthday celebration- and no mess to clean up. ;)
It's crazy how quickly this girl is growing up. I'm so thankful that she is the oldest of our crew, as she is such a little mother hen, and always willing to help her younger brother and sisters. She's so patient and kind with them, even when I know they're driving her crazy. ;)
Puppies galore for her family party. Maybe she'll finally be out of the puppy stage for her 9th birthday? ;)
Typical Claire- she didn't want Grace and Max to feel left out, so she picked some of her toys and wrapped them up for them to open.
And typical Grace decided to dress up for the occasion.
We love you Claire Bear!
Since we missed out on our usual boardwalk rides in OC this year, we decided to check out Adventureland for the first time. The kids loved it, and there was a big selection of rides that were just the right size for them.
This little girl slept the entire time we were there.
Max was not happy he had to ride by himself, but he did NOT want to ride in that pink boat with the girls. Oh the problems of being the only boy.
This was Grace's favorite ride, and the only ride where she cried when it was time to get off.
I think they were all tired by this point? Or else the merry go round was clearly not very exciting.
And any fun day should definitely end with a bowl of ice cream. Until next time Adventureland!
