It's A...

29 February

Normally, I have no desire to find out the gender of my baby.  I love the anticipation and surprise at the very end, and my extreme type A self really doesn't have a problem with taking a girl outfit and a boy outfit to the hospital.
Things are a little different this time around, however.
The baby's gender was included with all of our test results, which I can view online.
If, Lord willing, we make it to delivery- Baby M will be quickly whisked away to the NICU, not lovingly placed in my arms to
hold for as long as I want.
And there certainly will not be a lack of anticipation at that time.

So taking all of this into account, we did find out that Baby M is a ...

 GIRL!!!

Max's response was a quiet, "Nooooooooo"! Although we later discovered that he actually didn't care that the baby was a girl...he was just hoping for some blue confetti to play with. ;)
For now, baby girl's complications are stable, and we are fervently praying that they remain that way.  There's still the risk of severe anemia developing, fluid forming around her organs, and the ascites in her stomach, but these are things that will be checked weekly.  One of the most shocking aspects of this situation has been the recommendation to terminate pregnancy from doctors.  The same doctors who look at a screen showing a baby wiggling all over the place, a heart and brain functioning perfectly, and a tiny hand waving hello.  How sad that they can even suggest such a procedure just "in case" things go wrong.  Right after I left my last ultrasound (and met a new doctor who heavily implied termination), the song "Our God" by Chris Tomlin came on the radio, and I absolutely love this part:

Our God is greater, our God is stronger, God you are higher than any other.
Our God is Healer, Awesome in Power, Our God! Our God!

    1. It's crazy, right?!? I know that abortion happens (which is awful enough) but it's still so surprising to actually hear them offer it as though it's no big deal...as if it's perfectly ok to CHOOSE to end a baby's life. So incredibly sad.
