Weekend Recap

22 August

Yes, I realize it's Thursday and I'm just getting around to recapping our weekend.  It's our last week of summer vacation and we've been busy squeezing in all the things.😬
Back to our weekend recap.
Last Friday my mom and niece flew in for a long weekend.  That same day, Ben and I flew out for a quick overnight getaway to Detroit where his cousin was getting married.
We realized that we had not flown together without kids for 11 years. 😳 And while we did enjoy it, one night was good enough for us- we were ready to get back to our kiddos.  We actually like traveling WITH them, and we manage to carve out time for ourselves often when we're home so we don't feel like we desperately need that time away.
That being said, we did really enjoy the peace and quiet.😉
We stayed at a hotel that used to be a fire station.  The architecture and decor were beautiful, and they kept the original red fire house doors.

The hotel was located right by the Detroit River.  It was an absolutely gorgeous evening, so we walked along the river and then made our way downtown.
We found some water ice and relaxed by this water fountain and "beach" area for a little while.

Seriously, we couldn't have asked for better weather.
Our hotel had a great restaurant/lounge area downstairs, so we hung out there for a bit too.

Saturday morning we got ready and headed out for the wedding.
The location was beautiful, the day was beautiful, and the bride was gorgeous.

We visited with lots of friends and family (although these are the only pictures I have as proof...and I even stole one from my girl Alison), and then hopped on a plane back home.
We even got home in time for some swimming and tubing.

These two cousin-besties have had A LOT of fun together this summer, and I love it!  It's hard when you live far away from family, and I'm so thankful they are still such good friends and were able to do so much together this summer.
From attending horse camp in NJ,
to hanging out down the shore,
to enjoying many fun activities together in Tennessee, they have had a lot of fun this summer!

On Monday we headed up to the Mall of America before we had to take my mom and Addie to the airport.

We stumbled upon some free face painting and games right as we walked in.

We visited the Lego Store, ate at the Rainforest Cafe, and hopped on a ride before it was time to go.  And I drove home with 4 sad kiddos.

Although it wasn't long enough, we had the best time and packed in A LOT of nonstop fun. And a big shout out to my mom who kept all 5 kids alive while we were gone. That woman's still got it. 😉
