Tough Like Tessa
23 May
It's been 3 months since I last posted an update on Tessa...because there hasn't been anything to update! {Insert all the praise hands here}
Even that last update wasn't really anything new...because we haven't had any new developments for several months. {insert even more praise hands}
It still amazes me to think that on May 25th of last year, she stood up for the very first time.
I had to run outside for a minute, and when I came back up I looked through the window and saw this girl standing just like this. It was the very first time I had ever seen her standing on her own. Ben had placed some toys on the chair, and helped her get to the chair...and there she stood. And I cried and cheered and did all the emotional things.
Most of the time last summer she was either sitting, walking in her gait trainer, or being held.
Toward the end of the summer she had built up enough strength in her legs to be able to walk while just holding onto our hands. And then she took her very first steps in September.
And this summer? She'll be running, jumping, and climbing right along with her siblings.
God has been so good to us.
Last week she had a check up at Mayo. Her ultrasound showed her kidneys to be doing ok, with no signs of tumors, and her doctors are overjoyed with how well her malformation looks. Since she's doing so well, we'll just plan on keeping her medication and formula amounts the same.
And what a difference in how our appointments went this time around. She never fussed the entire ultrasound or in the waiting room. In fact, the only time she really cried was when Grammy decided to check and see if she was still scared of the blue latex gloves.
Spoiler alert: she is. I can't believe the ultrasound tech was able to wear one in her presence.
She also really enjoyed the 1980's video being shown in the vascular waiting room.
Tess continues to thoroughly enjoy life. She wants to do whatever the big kids are doing, she wants to get into anything and everything, and she just loves moving her little body.
We are so humbled by the many that continue to ask about Tessa and pray for her. It means so much to us, and her progress has been a true answer to all those prayers.
"Pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." James 5:16
